Coping with Your Loss!
“Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love, they depart to teach us about loss. A new dog never replaces an old dog, it merely expands the heart. If you have loved many dogs your heart is very big.” – Erica Jong
To cope with the loss of our dog can be an emotional one. Too many who have not own a dog before, would not be able to understand the grieved and broken hearted a dog owner will have to endure.
Regardless of how you loss your dog, through euthanasia, sickness, old age or accidents, the impact of losing a dog can be devastating and unbearable.
Below were some very unfortunate events that leads to the death of our my personal friends;
1. Peter with his Cocker Spaniel killed in car accident by his own car, he was only 15 Months old, 2. Nancy with her Shetland Sheepdog died of an unknown disease, he was only 4 Months old, 3. Shannon with his Border Collie, died of kidney failure, she was at her prime 4 Years Old,
4. Dexter with his Australia Shepherd, died of kidney failure, she was 6 Years old.
5. Debra with her Border collie, died of old age , she was 14 Years old.
How long will be the grief last? It dependent on individual. In my experienced, my first boy died unexpectedly and it took me 3 years to begin to do things differently and seriously. In all respect, we will need to remember, we need to take time to grief. Concentrate and focus on all the fun & exciting time with your dog it will help to ease the pain. Take how ever long you need to recover from the lost.
As Human Being, we need to understand we will outlive our dog. I know no new dog will be able to replace your lost companion, it will only be fair and thank god for all the dogs in your life. When the time come, you will be ready for the second dog, where you will find new love, peace and happiness living with your dog.

All dog owners will have to go through a Cycle of Pet Ownerships. In the event of a loss, we will get into denial, not wanting to accept the loss of our dog. And we goes into guilt, where you will feel you could have done better on what might be the things that leads to death. Illusion will set in as owners will start to envision what if , when do these might have prevented the death.
At this stage real depression sets in. You will be at your lowest point but this stage is necessary for actual healing and recovery. This point you will cry your eyes and heart out. Please do take time to grief. Finally, you will be ready to accept the harsh reality. By then, you will have sufficient courage to live through life with God's grace.
Complete healing comes when you start to remember your dog as living memory and is with the knowledge, comfort, peace and acceptance that will bring you into another realm. And you will be ready to have a Second Dog and start the Dog Ownership all over again.
