Nosework or Detection work is a field sport. Nose work is training to turn on your dog's nose to start relying on their ability to SMELL and to do detection or search work.

This Canine Scent work teaches our dog to find, detect, search for TOYS, FOODS, DRUGS, and EXPLOSIVES.

In more specific roles or Skill sets, dogs are trained to find CANCER CELLS, DEAD BODY, TERMITES etc... You will see our Canines Hero in the Police Dog Unit, Military Dog Unit, SCDF Search-And-Rescue DOG Unit etc working tirelessly to keep out the bad guys and maintaining stability in the country.

For the dog scent, they possess up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to about six million in us. And the part of a dog's brain that is devoted to analyzing smells is, proportionally speaking, 40 times greater than ours.

Dog’s have a special scent-detecting organ that humans don’t have. This is called the vomeronasal organ, explains Michael T. Nappier, DVM, DABVP, of the Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. And it helps canines detect pheromones, chemicals released by animals that affect other members of the same species. This organ plays an important role in reproduction and other aspects of canine physiology and behaviour.

While all dogs have strong sniffers, Nappier says “hound breed dogs have the best sense of smell.” Dorman points out that sturdy working dogs like German Shepherds and Labradors also rank high in their smelling abilities.

Some dogs, like Pugs who have short faces (also known as brachycephalicdogs), may “have some airway compromise that could affect their sense of smell."
